Of all the places to snowboard in the world, Japan has a special place in many snowboarders hearts. Beautiful peaks, unique wildlife, ancient history and one of the most technologically advanced nations in the world make for an amazing experience. Oh, and did we mention the snow? Light, and very, very abundant. Japan truly stuns the senses. We haven’t even mentioned the fantastic food and legendary Japanese hospitality.
Our journey will start in the tech city of Tokyo, where where we will be able to visit some of the famous areas such as the Shibuya and Harajuku districts.
Heading for the mountains, we will waste no time by getting onto the famous bullet train for a quick trip to our 1st snowboarding destinantion, Hakuba. We’ll be staying in a historical Samurai lodge and after getting warmed up in Hakuba, will be heading to Japan’s biggest freeride mountain, Happo-One. While at Happo-One we’ll also be taking a backcountry tour out to an Onsen, a Japanese hot springs. Cultural visits along the way will include a visit to a Shinto shrine, and a ninja musuem.
What visit to Japan would be complete without a visit to the famous snow monkeys? A quick hello, and then we’ll be off back to Tokyo for a flight up to our trip’s crown jewel, the Northern island of Hokkido. It will take us a plane ride and a train ride to get to Hokkido, but have no fear, if you are an obssessed rider, we’ll just have to check out the night riding at the resort once we get to town.
We’ll spend the next 4 days riding the deepest, longest lines that Japan has to offer. In this 4 days we’ll be taking a private snowcat one day, so get out your powder snorkles!
Guides Jeff Stein, Mikey Franco, and Kei Ishiuchi (our master of Japan), will guide you on your way to discovering you next ‘favorite place to ride’
Every snowboarder should have a lifetime list of places to ride, and Japan should be at the top of that list.
